Will You Chicken?

When you go for that night out party, you either eat before or after. You may start the night by eating to line your stomach with food that will keep you from getting drunk too early during the night. Or after partying, to sober you up and be able to find your way home.

Aside from Chowking for the mami noodles, many of bar-hoppers in Cubao, end up with two favorites operating 24-hours: Jollibee and KFC. The regulars will be your 1 or 2-piece chicken, Jollibee Chicken Joy or KFC original or krispy hot.

But eating late night or early dawn at fast foods makes it more interesting. I can get seated on tables near the glass window and this gives me a perfect view of the sidewalks outside. But the sidewalk is not actually what the view I am interested in. It is the view of the people passing by.

There are two points of view in an all-glass wall: (1)inside of the glass; (2)outside of the glass. When we went to eat at a store, I usually choose to sit on the corner table of the glass window. This spot provides a view of the corners of 2 sidewalks the crosses paths. You can see the different people traversing the 2 paths. You find groups leisurely walking towards the door and to the counter. Then you find groups ready for work at nearby call-centers. Sometimes, you get eye-contact with the cute guy passing by and he smiles at you that you cannot help but smile back.

On the other hand, there would also be times when you are the one walking past by the store. You see a display of different characters encased in that temporary glass cage. One table, you see a soloist, someone is seated and dining alone. Next table are 4 guys wearing the loudest pastels of skinny jeans and the wayfarer frames with obvious no glasses. The table behind them is a girl eating while reading a book or is in her tablet reading an e-book, maybe reviewing for her exams the next day or just reading the new novel on craze.

  1. Thanks for featuring KFC, my all-time favorite. As to eating before drinking, yes, that's the right thing to do.
